Correct the feedback rating on ebay?

Question by Andrew M: Correct the feedback rating on ebay?
A buyer left negative feedback on an item they bought from me. (It was an Indiana Jones Cereal Box give-away plastic spoon.) I have had this spoon in a draw for years, so it has not been used to any extent. I listed it as “used” and with all the facts, e.g., size, make, condition, and also that the spoon had a button on it and a switch on it. I stated in the listing “…that I did not know what they were for”.
I thought they might be “pretend-features” that are sometimes on a toy. Something like… “push a button and magically disappear”. Anyway, the buyer was unhappy because the spoon did not “light-up.” They wrote in the negative feedback that they were disappointed with the item as it did not “light-up.” I never advertised the spoon as something that would “light-up”. Ebay insists that I am at fault and I cannot understand their point of view. They said that feedback is a buyer’s opinion and they can write what they want. It seems to me that a buyer cannot or should not be able to write whatever they want. If they complain, it has to be valid, especially when it affects a seller’s rating. For instance, what is to stop a buyer from giving negative feedback on a whim? Suppose they wrote that I did not send them a “gold coin”. Well… I never said that I would not send them a gold coin… so I would be at fault… just like not sending a “lighted spoon.”

Does anyone have any idea how I can deal effectively with ebay. Their support center is in the Philippines and I think maybe they have a hard time with the language and read more into something then should be.

Unfortunately, you can’t do anything about it except to comment below the negative explaining your side of the story.

Another way, is to ask the buyer if he’d consider a refund & have him keep the item, but say it in a creative way. Don’t want ebay or the buyer to think your bribing or pressuring him to change the feedback and get an MC violation. A plastic spoon can’t be worth more than $ 10? so not worth the negative.
